’Tis the season to be SICK, isn't it? Everywhere you look, someone is coughing, sneezing, or blowing their nose. It’s inconvenient, annoying, stressful and costly! Sick days from work (which could be BETTER used for a vacation!), over the counter medication, doctor’s visits, prescription, etc.! And sometimes the symptoms and suffering go on for many DAYS, and even WEEKS, don’t they? But is it really NECESSARY? I believe NOT! Recently, I “caught” something, and got to prove my … [Read more...]
Giving Love…
This time of year we gear up for the season of “giving”; that is, Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Yule, or whatever you celebrate. From a child’s point of view, it’s the best time of the YEAR, nothing else compares! A week or so off from school, lots of food, playtime, and PRESENTS! BEFORE the day: What would make me SO happy? What do I want THIS year? Oh, there is so much to CHOOSE from! Wonderful video games and new systems to play them on, on my widescreen t.v. I got LAST year…a … [Read more...]
Cosmic Connections
HERE is a good question from one of my students, and very good friend, Kandy: "Good day !!! I have a question ... Do you believe in cosmic connections? If so, how do you explain we are all one as is everything ??? Is cosmic connection just THOUGHT ?" My response: "Good day! Yes! Pretty much...they're intentions, and manifestations of our own reality. Thoughts are vibrations which extend and echo throughout the universes, and seek receptors." K: "Aren't thoughts also dangerous ... i.e., … [Read more...]
Why Do I Love Thee? Let Me Count the Ways…
"I love you, I love you, I LOVE you!" "I love you, too..!" "WHY do you love me?" (I hear the WORDS..) "What?" "Why do you LOVE me?" (motivation for love) "I don't know...so MANY reasons!" (I gotta LIST 'em?) "Name a few." (I don't feel worthy of your love) "Okaaaaay...." (Yep...Gotta list 'em!) Well, you're kind, attentive, thoughtful, giving (maybe a few more), sweet, you dress nice (Okay, reaching a bit. Did I say "sweet", yet?), and very generous!"(THAT oughta do … [Read more...]
Memorial Day
Memorial Day is the day people set aside to remember the veterans who fought in the various wars the U.S. was engaged in, and despite my personal feelings regarding the reasons, I want to honor the men and women who put their lives on the line for what they were sure was a just cause. We generally celebrate their memory with a 3-day weekend, getting family and friends together to enjoy one another's company at the beach, on the picnic grounds, and in various activities aside from the … [Read more...]
Facets
As I scan the horizon from the windows of the bus for any whale activity, I recognize the sweet aroma of peppermint. I shift my gaze in the window to see the reflection behind me, and listen carefully. Yep, the sound of someone brushing their teeth, right across the aisle from me, accompanying herself with humming. Eat your heart out, N.Y. subway riders.... I finally see a small spouting of water coming out of the span of blue, and some fin movement, as well. Better than nothing, I conclude, … [Read more...]
God’s Not Dead
I came to this movie to keep my objectivity from wearing too thin, as I have little regard for most religious dogma attempting to sway one into another's belief system simply because it works for that individual. The premise was there. An atheist professor of philosophy challenges a young Christian man to prove the existence of God. Sounds like a great debate, right? Looking at movies like Dogma or Mindwalk shows the world is rife with great philosophical examples for each side, and the world … [Read more...]
Heaven: Real, or Imagined?
I recently saw the movie, "Heaven is for Real", and it was a kind of a reluctant act on my part. I had a problem with the book in that it seems to have a strong Christian bent, and was even positioned in that manner on various websites, with an obvious vested interest. Well, the movie I WANTED to see wasn't there yet, despite the papers saying otherwise (thanks, guys), so I took that as a kind of sign to check this one out. That, coupled with the knowing that it's an important thing to … [Read more...]
Transcending the Vessel
I often wonder what it is to be a human, BEING. I mean, we're in these little protoplasmic vessels, which we more or less have control of, but our minds go far beyond that. And every one of us has the capacity to imagine, to transcend the tiny being which we call "human". We do it in art, music, writing, and in our dreams. We can dance to express our emotions, act to show that we can do more than just be one person, despite our outer appearance and countenance. If we CAN be anyone, or … [Read more...]
